Halogen airfield lamps are based on the same mechanical construction as standard low voltage halogen lamps. The main difference is that OSRAM XENOPHOT lamps use Xenon as filling gas, reaching up to 10% higher luminous output at the same level of power consumption compared to conventional halogen lamps. They are operating fully in accordance with ICAO standards for white light. OSRAM XENOPHOT lamps can easily be identified by the abbreviation HLX in the catalogue.
OSRAM IRC is the latest innovation in halogen lamps technology. IRC stands for infrared reflecting coating. Halogen lamp mirror reflectors coated with this technology emit most of the visible part of the light through the lamp's reflectors only. Most of the invisible energy submitted will be reflected to the filament – increasing the efficiency by up to 30% and expanding the lamp's life time.
